As the world’s largest issuer of credit and debit cards, UnionPay set out to enter the rapidly growing mobile payments market. Competing with digital-first platforms required extending the brand beyond traditional card infrastructure.

We worked with UnionPay’s digital innovation team to define the foundation for UnionPay Wallet, focusing on scalability and long-term flexibility.

Entering a market dominated by Alipay and WeChat Wallet required a competitive, full-featured experience. UnionPay Wallet enables in-store and online payments, card and balance management, scheduled payments, and everyday services such as utilities and transport within a single app.

Built for scale from day one, the platform combines internationalization, partner integrations, and an integrated merchant portal that allows businesses to accept payments without dedicated POS hardware. Supported by a flexible design system, UnionPay Wallet positions the brand for long-term growth in mobile payments.
