Atlas A1
Self-custody, reimagined.
The Atlas A1 is the culmination of our thought on what a modern crypto hardware wallet should look and feel like. Designed to safeguard every coin, token, and collectible you own.
Though ultimately cancelled, we believe it stands as a meaningful exploration of better self-custody experiences.
True ownership,
made simple
We are firm believers in the virtues of self-custody. At the same time, we recognize that the barriers to entry for most self-custody solutions remain staggeringly high. The A1 was designed to change that. A hardware wallet built to rival the convenience of any custodial service.
Completed in design,
cancelled in practice
Though complete in design, the project was ultimately discontinued during the development process. And while the final product may never see the light of day, we believe it remains a meaningful case study that reflects our thinking on what self-custody experiences should look like.
More than just a signer
Unlike most hardware wallets currently available, the A1 was designed to be more than just a transaction signing device. Its gorgeous, 3.2” high resolution touchscreen display makes it incredibly easy and intuitive to keep an eye on your portfolio across balances and digital collectibles.
Designed in unison
The Atlas mobile app was designed in lockstep with the A1. Every interaction between hardware and software has been carefully considered to achieve an unprecedented level of cohesion.

Owning your digital assets shouldn’t be complicated. Atlas brings together a carefully considered technology stack to create a portfolio management experience that is simple, intuitive, and secure.
Immersive portfolio tracking
The Atlas A1 sports a beautiful high-resolution touch-screen display, allowing you to track your digital asset portfolio with clarity, comfort, and ease.
A unified system, inside and out
Powered by Atlas OS, the A1 achieves an unrivalled level of integration between hardware and software, delivering a seamless and responsive experience.
Biometric transaction signing
Using the A1's built-in fingerprint sensor, we strive to simplify and personalize the transactions signing process dramatically.
Verify with ease: tap to sign
Contactless payments have been around for while, so we introduce the same level of convenience to the transaction signing flow.
Your new favorite
hardware wallet
The Atlas A1 has been meticulously engineered with careful attention to detail. It features a best-in-class touchscreen display, secure biometric verification, versatile connectivity options, and a body crafted from premium materials.

FAQ
Got questions? We might already have the answers! Below you’ll find clear responses to the topics we’re asked about most often, gathered in one place for easy reference.
-
Why did you decide to pursue a hardware project?
We strongly believe in the virtues of self-custody. After all, if it’s not your keys, then it’s certainly not your coins. Having worked with a plethora of different hardware wallets throughout the years, we were consistently dissatisfied with both the hardware and software experiences they offered. Given our background in product and experience design, we thought it would only make sense to dedicate our time to reimagine what a hardware wallet should look and feel like.
-
What exactly happened with the project?
We began working on Atlas A1 in early 2023 and continued developing it through mid 2024. The project progressed from early concept exploration to detailed hardware and software design, and ultimately into the prototyping and engineering stages.
As the work advanced, priorities within the team shifted and key members needed to redirect their time and focus elsewhere. With those changes, we made the decision to discontinue the project. -
How far into the development process was it cancelled?
Between early 2023 and mid to late 2024, the project evolved from early exploration into a fully defined product. The MVP roadmap was clearly specified, covering both hardware and software.
By the time the project was cancelled, detailed designs had been completed and the first engineering prototypes moved into production. -
Why did you still publish the work anyways?
We chose to publish the case study because we believe the development of better self-custody tools is still critically important. The barriers to entry remain too high, and the overall experience is still too complex for many people.
There is significant work to be done in making self-custody more accessible, especially for those who are new to the digital asset space. By sharing our process and thinking, we hope to contribute to that broader conversation and push the standard forward, even if this particular product will not move into production. -
Any chance that you would pick up the project again?
Experience has taught us to never say never. Atlas A1 represents work we care deeply about, and the core ideas behind it remain relevant.
That said, the odds of reviving the project are small, at least at this point in time. We’re busy working on several very exciting projects, and any future return would require the right circumstances and priorities to align. -
Will Atlas A1 influence future projects?
Absolutely! The team learned a great deal from taking a self-custody hardware product from concept to design and into the engineering stage. Working through that full process gave us practical insight into how vision translates into real-world constraints and decisions.
It fundamentally shaped our understanding of what it takes to build the next generation of tools that inspire trust and confidence. Those lessons will carry forward into everything we create.
